The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
